Maung Thet Oo's Story (Myanmar)

Maung Thet Oo, 12-year boy, currently living in Aye Thar Yar Village, Htantapin Township, Myanmar. He is studying in Aye Ywar Lay Post Primary School. His father had a stroke last year and was admitted to Insein Hospital in Yangon and is now back in the village but unable to work as a usual anymore.

His mother then becomes the only breadwinner of the family and work as a daily low pay labor. But the earning is less than family's expenditures and she has to borrow money from relatives to support Maung Thet Oo and his sister to attend school. Thet Oo and his sister always help their mother to fetch water, cut wood to sell in the village as fire wood to get money.

Maung Thet Oo said “ I am afraid that I have to drop out school some day  to help earn money for the family and support my sister to study at school.”
