Khin Sandar Thaw's Story (Myanmar)

Khin Sandar Thaw, 12-year girl, from Aduttaw village, Kyauktan Township, Yangon East Division, Myanmar. She is now studying at  Aduttaw Post Primary School. Her father passed away 8 years ago and she has been living with her widowed mother and her two elder brothers since then.

Her mother is a low pay worker who works at betel plantation in the village and do some odd jobs to earn an average of 80,000 kyats ($94) a month. Khin Sandar Thaw and her elder brothers always help her mother work at betel plantations in the village to earn more income. She and her elder brothers  do not have any pocket money to buy snacks at school or to go to private tution like some of the other students at school.

Khin Sandar Thaw told that - “I am trying very hard at school and I am confident that I will, one day, be able to enter the University, have a decent job, and look after my beloved widowed mother. She has worked so hard as a worker and some odd jobs in the village, without remarrying to bring us up”.
