Ratchapruk's Story (Thailand)

Hello, I am Ratchapruk , nickname Chomphu. Currently, I am studying in the 11th Grade and residing in Buriram province. It is a small school located in my district. I chose to study here because it is close to home and can reduce education expenses and transportation to school.

I currently live in the home of my aunt, which is a small, old house with corrugated metal roof and wooden walls. When it rains, rainwater seeps inside the house. There are six of us living together: my uncle, my aunt, my elder brother, my elder sister, myself, and a nephew. I stay with my aunt because my parents are separated and my mother has to work in another province.

Chomphu’s living condition, along with all six household members,
is very challenging to say the least

My uncle and aunt do not have regular jobs, leading to unstable income and difficult financial circumstances. The main source of income comes from my mother, who has recently lost her job due to her age. This has caused serious financial difficulties for all of us

Even though, I am still studying, I try my best to contribute by working independently such as freelance writing and tutoring. Whenever my mother sends money, I give it to my uncle and aunt to help cover household expenses.

Chomphu’s aunt has been taking care of her since childhood,
following the separation of her parents

Every day after school, I help with household chores. During weekends, I take on odd jobs, such as writing assignments and tutoring. At school, I particularly enjoy studying physics, chemistry, biology, English and mathematics. In my free time, I like drawing, reading books and writing short stories. My dream is to become a doctor when I grow up because it is a stable profession that can improve the well-being of my family. I wish for everyone in my family to have a better life. I understand poverty very well. Simply said, “If we don't do anything, we won't have enough to eat.” I am determined to study hard for a better future for everyone in my family.

In addition to helping her aunt with household chores, Chomphu also
takes on writing and tutoring jobs to earn money to cover school expenses
and to help her aunt

If I receive the scholarship this time, I will focus on my studies to complete the 12th grade and prepare for the university entrance exams at the public university. This is to pursue my dream of becoming a doctor. I promise to spend the scholarship funds to the fullest, aiming to make the most out of the opportunity to achieve my dream and goal.
